Our Story
AFTR exists because the system that is supposed to support grieving families does not work. We are fixing that.

Meet the Founder
The inspiration for AFTR came from a deeply personal loss. When Theresa's father passed away, she found herself thrust into a chaotic maze of fragmented estate and post-loss logistics. Despite being highly capable, she discovered that the existing system was fundamentally broken, bringing grieving families to their knees during their most vulnerable moments.
While navigating that grief and closing out her father's affairs, she found herself obsessing over how this process really should not be this hard. Theresa saw the need to build a workflow tool to alleviate the operational burden of loss. She channeled her energy to find a fix for this broken system and establish AFTR: a tech-first platform specifically engineered to support families navigating life's most difficult, yet inevitable, curveballs.
At AFTR, Theresa leverages her background in product design partnership, user-experience optimization, and high-touch operations to build a seamless, frictionless system that handles complex human logistics with profound empathy and absolute precision.
“Stepping into the role of an executor means balancing the emotional weight of grief with the complex practicalities of closing an estate: two deeply demanding and unpredictable paths.”
Theresa, Founder of AFTR
Every year, more than 2.7 million Americans step into the role of executor or next-of-kin administrator with no training, no roadmap, and no time. They are handed a death certificate and expected to navigate Social Security, probate court, bank accounts, subscriptions, tax filings, and more — often while they are still in shock.
Every word in AFTR is written for someone who is grieving. No legal jargon. No cold checklists. Plain language that meets you where you are.
Missing a single notification can delay estate closure for months. AFTR covers all 44 tasks across seven categories so nothing falls through the cracks.
Estate closure takes 12 to 18 months on average. AFTR saves your progress automatically and waits for you. There is no expiry, no pressure.
